Does it have to be cat shampoo? Can I use regular (human) shampoo, or some other household detergent?
The cat is so overweight, that it can't clean its back or butt. Simply brushing it doesn't work. The back fur is getting clumpy, and the butt is always dirty. What kind of shampoo do I need to bathe a cat?
We used to have a long haired kitten and her back end got disgusting! We used baby wipes to get the muck off regularly rather than bathing her. If you really do need to bathe your cat buy some small animal shampoo, used for rabbits and guinea pigs etc. I had to bath my hamster years ago and it works really well and smells gorgeous :) It didn't cost much and you only need a drop at a time.
Please try to address the weight problem though, it's definitely not healthy! What kind of shampoo do I need to bathe a cat?
You can use mild dish detergent or baby shampoo w/lanolin in it,.. rinse well though and don't bathe kitty too often,.. they shouldn't need to be bathed usually.
You shouldn't use human shampoo or detergent cats skin is different than ours and it would dry your cats skin out and make it all itchy. If you go to your petstore you should be able to find some cat shampoo and if he doesn't like water they sell wipes that you can use to clean your pet off with. Good luck!
The clumps may need to be shaved out. A simple moisturizing oatmeal shampoo is a good shampoo to use. Human shampoos are not pH balanced for their skin. Also, don't use a flea and tick shampoo b/c it is very drying.Just check the label of the shampoo you buy and make sure it is ok to use on cats. Now bathing a cat....that's another topic!! Good Luck!!! =-)
Delta is right but you need to get some of that weight off the kitty. Only feed measured amount of food. There is at least one low carb food for weight control in cats and my vets techs have used it and recommend it. It is hard to get a fat cat to lose so get her playing more and as actively as you can. She will like the extra attention too.
you can buy cat bath wipes now so would not have to give full bath
